2020 Council

Executive Council

Parsa Amin

President

What is your goal?

My goal for the year is to advocate for all pharmacy students, to offer support to all students with UpToDate inquiries and to support your fellow VP’s in supporting you!

What do you take everywhere with you?

A pair of earbuds.

What is your favourite quote?

“Do not disturb yourself by picturing your life as a whole; do not assemble in your mind the many and varied troubles which have come to you in the past and will come again in the future, but ask yourself with regard to every present difficulty: ‘What is there in this that is unbearable and beyond endurance.'”

– Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

Jeremy Bulatao

VP Internal

What is your goal?

My goal as PhUS VP Internal will be to encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities. I believe that doing so would help students gain additional skills that are not taught in the classroom while creating wonderful memories with their Pharmily.

What do you take everywhere with you?

Phone, car keys, and my wallet.

What is your favourite quote?

“You have to believe that every decision you make is the right one.”

Kevin Kang

VP External

What is your goal?

My goal is to act as a representative of our pharmacy program in the AMS Council and protect/advocate the interests of pharmacy students. In addition, as an executive member of the Health & Dental committee in the AMS, I would like to represent our changing interests due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What do you take everywhere with you?

My phone so I can find tasty restaurants nearby when I inevitably get hungry.

What is your favourite quote?

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”

Giordano Bua

VP Academic

What is your goal?

As PhUS VP Academic I plan to be the go-between for concerned students and the university administration and represent student interest in academic policies and university governance. To continue involvement with several ongoing projects, including Student Pipeline, Mental Health and Wellness and more! Essentially, PhUS VP Academic is a liaison between faculty and students and represents PharmD students’ best interests.

What do you take everywhere with you?

My glasses (or contacts), I need those to see!

What is your favourite quote?

“Character is built now, not later.”

Jessica Jiang

VP Finance

What is your goal?

To primarily fund the PhUS events that are planned for the student body and play a supportive role in securing sponsors. Ultimately, my goal is to act with accountability, flexibility and integrity in hopes of providing students the best year possible with my amazing team!

What do you take everywhere with you?

Lip balm! I carry around at least 3 at all times. πŸ™‚

What is your favourite quote?

“Fight with all you have until the sword in your heart breaks.”

Radha Gupta

VP Social

What is your goal?

My goal is to make sure that the entire pharmily makes a life times worth of memories during their time at UBC. In order to do this it is very important to have a balance between education and socializing to help destress, and I intend to help make this possible by planning awesome events for everyone to enjoy.

What do you take everywhere with you?

My love for food and having a good laugh!

What is your favourite quote?

“One day or day one. You decide.”

“Don’t cry because its over, laugh because it happened.”

Marcus Lo

VP Communications

What is your goal?

My goal is to work alongside the Faculty, the PhUS Council, and the pharmacy student body to provide the latest news and updates. During these extraordinary times, many in-person events have transitioned online and my responsibility is to deliver this information in a straightforward and comprehensive manner.

What do you take everywhere with you?

My earbuds so I can listen to my favourite Spotify songs and sleep. (Please sponsor me with AirPods Pro πŸ™‚ )

What is your favourite quote?

β€œAn eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind”

– M. K. Gandhi

Vanessa Cheng

Secretary

What is your goal?

My goal is to explore as many opportunities that UBC Pharmacy has to offer! I didn’t have the ability to join student-led organizations such as PhUS when I was an undergrad, so I set out to make the most out of these last 4 years of school (ever!). This experience has been super humbling. I’ve been able to connect with the student body more, and to implement new initiatives that can help future students as well!

What do you take everywhere with you?

I always carry my blue Mentos gum in Fresh Mint. Mentos has perfected the coating, and the flavour lasts me through long back-to-back lectures.
