President Candidate, Esther Lu
Hi everyone!
My name is Esther, and over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as your PhUS VP External, leading PAM initiatives and representing you on the AMS council. As PAM co-chair, I’m proud to share that we’ve expanded our event lineup from 9 to 12 events this year! Additionally, thanks to our amazing PAM coordinators and sponsors, we’ve increased our budget by $700 compared to last year!
Now, I’m excited to bring that same dedication and drive to PhUS as your next President.
As a pharmacy student for the past two years, I’ve seen how PhUS continues to evolve—whether it’s the backpack initiative or incorporating mentorship to PhUS to support PY1s. As your PhUS president, I hope to bring even more change and improvements to PhUS.
1) Transparency
A lot of what happens in PhUS gets overlooked by pharmacy students simply because they don’t know what PhUS does or feel like their voice doesn’t matter.
A possible solution I would like to implement would be to have a monthly PhUS newsletter focusing on what PhUS has been up to. This would include documenting our progress in certain initiatives or complaints. For example, I feel like a lot of students had to know from word of mouth about the rooms being locked and what PhUS/faculty was doing to try and work things through. With this newsletter, we can help minimize the confusion students face and also reassure them that PhUS is doing what we can to aid students. This also ensures that the students know their voices are being heard.
2) Student Support
Coming into pharmacy as a PY1, I felt quite lost in how to study and found it difficult to adjust. To help incoming students feel more prepared, I want to create a shared platform for upper-year students to share study tips and advice—similar to the ICE Bible, but instead covering general survival tips for pharmacy school, from tackling different modules to excelling in PBAs.
3) Fostering Pharmily Spirit
One of my favourite initiatives this year has been Pharmacy Backpacks! These backpacks not only create a sense of belonging for incoming students but also help foster school spirit and unity within our faculty. I’d love to continue and expand this initiative to strengthen our Pharmily!
All in all, I am very excited to make PhUS more connected, inclusive and supportive! If these initiatives appeal to you,
