Throughout all of year one, I’ve come to appreciate that our pharmacy class is more than just a group of students moving through the same program. We are a community, supporting each other through all the ups and downs that make our cohort special. I truly value how strong we can be when we listen and learn from one another. I don’t want to be the representative who only speaks for our class; I strive to be an approachable avenue for my peers to voice their opinions and concerns. We already have enough people speaking at you; you need someone who is willing to listen to every perspective, especially the voices that aren’t always heard. But listening is only the first step. As your year two representative I will turn your feedback into action by advocating for our cohort to faculty and the PhUS council. I will also continue to strengthen our sense of community by creating ample opportunities to connect outside of the classroom, ensuring that every student feels welcome and supported with a sense of place within our cohort. Coming into the program last year, one of my goals was to learn everyone’s name by graduation. While I am still working on it, that goal reflects the kind of community I hope we can continue to build; one where we look out for one another, and no one feels like a stranger. I’m not running simply to speak for the class. I’m running to listen, engage, and advocate – I would be honoured to represent you in doing so.
